TRU VUE OPTIUM MUSEUM ACRYLIC

Tru Vue Optium Museum acrylic is the pinnacle of conservation grade materials; designed to meet the demanding optical requirements of the custom framing and museum industries. Its main distinguishing characteristic is its amazing anti-glare property which makes it appear almost completely invisible. Two anti-static, anti-reflective grades are available, with two levels of UV protection, 93% Optium Acrylic or 99% Optium Museum acrylic. Optium is a “preservation” grade material, suitable for use to protect against vandalism, UV damage and moisture, if the casing is properly designed and built.

Features

  • Maximum UV protection – up to 99%. Protects against fading and yellowing.
  • Anti-Reflective – significantly reduces light reflection. Virtually invisible with direct viewing.
  • Anti-Static – does not retain electrostatic charge (suitable for pastels, chalk, charcoal).
  • Lightweight – approximately 50% lighter than glass.
  • Enhanced Security – shatter resistant.
  • Cleans like glass with ammonia-free cleaner.

Optium Display Cases

Architectural Plastics is one of the few companies in North America that can make museum quality display cases and box frames entirely from Tru Vue Optium Museum acrylic. Optium is typically used for picture framing, glazing and face shields for technical instruments but can also be fabricated into three-dimensional products such as museum cases and box frames. In a vitrine application, a museum may desire the non-reflective properties of Optium so the viewer can walk around the art object and view it without glare. Optium acrylic has a proprietary coating on both sides that give the material its exceptional properties. However, the coating does not allow normal gluing as regular acrylic does. Special skills and techniques are required to glue Optium to itself. We have developed our own proprietary gluing process which allows us to fabricate museum quality glue joints with Optium.

Projects

Architectural Plastics designs and fabricates finished items, parts and displays for other manufacturers, businesses and private clients. Below is a diverse collection of projects we completed by overcoming challenges that other plastic fabrication companies were unable to solve.
